How To Get the Smell of Burned Popcorn Out of the Microwave

2/16/2018 (Permalink)

There are numerous fire hazards in an office break room. Fortunately, most employees know how to use these items properly. However, as a business owner, you may eventually discover someone accidentally burned popcorn in the break room. It is usually not a big deal, but it can leave behind an unpleasant odor. Before you try smoke cleanup services in New Orleans, LA, you should try to eliminate the stench on your own.

1. Use a Bowl Filled With White Vinegar and Water

Using one tablespoon of white vinegar and one-half cup of water, you may be able to get rid of the smell. Microwave this bowl for between four and five minutes. Next, leave it in there for an additional 15 minutes. The steam should be able to loosen the residue. You can wipe the inside of the microwave down with a towel afterward.

2. Try Citruses

In the event white vinegar does not work, you may be able to remove the smell of burned popcorn with citruses. Place two lemon or orange slices inside of a bowl along with water and microwave it for another four minutes. Make sure to keep a close eye on this to ensure the peels do not burn. They should not, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

3. Use Baking Soda

If all else fails, then you should leave a box of baking soda inside the microwave overnight. Hopefully this should neutralize the odor and will work wonder in building deodorization. If you truly cannot get the stench out, then you may want to get a new microwave if you can afford it and if this one was old anyway.

The odor of burned popcorn can really be overpowering and can prevent people from doing their jobs efficiently. You can keep the break room a safe place by informing employees of how they should act and how to use appliances in the room.
